KV Controls resolved a difficult mechanical by-pass valve application in a Petro-Chemical plant.
For years it is common to operate the mechanical by-pass valve by cracking it open to release pressure downstream to increase pressure prior opening the Control valve, however in this application the medium was water and the valve a standard Globe valve, by only opening the valve partially , the energy become to high and the plug got broken off (water hammer?)
Our solution was a Segmented ball valve (usually used as a control valve) fitted with a Multi-Stage K-trim and down stream diffuser.
The multi pressure stage trim reduces the pressure through various stages in the valve when opening, thus resulting cavitation free operation.
